Summer Bridge Testimonials

How did the Summer Bridge Program help your transition as a freshman into college?

Sandra Ruiz

Summer Bridge helped me build bonds with staff and faculty members at the university especially in EOP. These bonds lead to other opportunities, such as my first on-campus job as receptionist for EOP and later on as a Teaching Assistant for the Learning Communities.

The things that I value the most about Summer Bridge are the encouraging friends that I have made and the awesome Summer Bridge staff members! Because of the program, I now understand what it takes to be a successful college student. It also helped me realize what to expect from my first semester as a college student.

What summer activity did you enjoy the most during the Summer Bridge Academy?

Sebastian Moore

The activity that I enjoyed the most while attending Summer Bridge was the end of the summer picnic. It was fun meeting the other Summer Bridge students while playing various games and sports with them. They also provided free lunch and refreshments that kept our energy up. I thought it was a wonderful way to celebrate our hard work in the end.

Summer Bridge Academy Students’ Quotes

"When I arrived here at college I didn't know what to do, everything was new to me, I needed guidance to help me make good decisions during my years here. What EOP offered me was more than just the guidance, it was making friends and learning to learn and be a better student. Through the help of the EOP program I attended workshops that made me think more about the choices I make, I'll never forget the feeling I had when I left that workshop and it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't required by EOP for me to attend. EOP made me a better student and I'm not confused anymore. I have the tools and help I need to succeed in college and I couldn't be more thankful for that."

"As a student at California State University Sacramento, I had the opportunity to become a member of the Educational Opportunity program Eop. I was very excited and honored to have had the eligibility to have participated in the Summer Bridge Academy in the summer. It was a wonderful, unforgettable experience that helped me meet new friends. I enjoyed the playing fun group games with my friends. I also learned how to become more independent and learned a lot of skills in how to succeed my dreams of a college degree."

"Coming into the Summer Bridge Academy, I didn’t know what to expect. I was worried that I’d be isolated from social groups and that the stress of college would get to me, but I was surprised at how friendly and supportive everyone was of one another. We were all strangers in the same situation. Within the first day I met people I thought I’d never speak to and maybe became too close of friends with people I knew little about. I can’t say SB was easy because that’d be a lie, but I can say it was worth it. I don’t regret the summer I gave up, or the friends I’ve made, or the experience I’ve gained."
