ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN MEDIEVAL BRITISH LITERATURE
DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
Beginning Fall Semester 2009
California State University, Sacramento invites applications from
individuals interested in joining our dynamic and growing faculty.
With a current student population of approximately 28,000, Sacramento
State, the capital University, is one of the larger campuses in
the 23-campus California State University system, the largest system
of public higher education in the nation. The University is organized
around eight colleges. There are approximately 1700 faculty who
provide programs of instruction leading towards bachelor's degrees
in 60 disciplines and master's degrees in 40 disciplines, two joint
doctoral programs and one independent doctoral program.
Sacramento is a high-growth metropolitan area with a population
of approximately 2 million. Sacramento, a city and county with a
very diverse population, was identified by Time Magazine in 2002

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Ph.D. in English (Literature) required, which must be
completed by August 1, 2009.
Special Knowledge and Abilities: Primary expertise in Medieval
British Literature. Ability to teach literature classes in Medieval
British Literature. Ability to teach sophomore-level British literature
survey classes as well as composition classes. Secondary areas to
be left open.
Experience: College-level teaching experience required. Preference
will be given to applicants who show ability to work with a diverse
student population.
Assignment
Teach graduate and undergraduate classes in Medieval British Literature.
Teach sophomore-level British literature classes, as well as composition
classes. Teach classes in secondary areas (to be determined) as
needed. Engage in scholarly and/or creative activities. Serve on
Department committees and provide service to the campus and community.
Appointment
Entry level, Tenure-track, Assistant Professor of English
