ΠΣΑ PI SIGMA ALPHA

The National Political Science Honor Society Epsilon Psi Chapter

You may be eligible for membership in Pi Sigma Alpha (ΠΣΑ), the national political science honor society (www.pisigmaalpha.org).  Founded in 1920, it aims to foster excellence in learning and in public service.  It does so by recognizing academic achievement in the discipline of political science and by honoring those who have served the public well.  Membership in the national society is through membership in a campus chapter.  In the last several years, our Pi Sigma Alpha chapter has not been active.  However, we want to present you with the opportunity to join the society because it does recognize the good work you have done in your major.  Thus, while we will not organize to undertake activities per se, applications for membership will be available to eligible students.

Eligibility Requirements

Membership is open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students currently enrolled in programs of Government/Political Science.

Undergraduates must be at least juniors with a GPA of 3.0 who have completed twelve (12) units in government, nine (9) of which must be upper division, and who majored in Government, Government/International Relations, or Government/Journalism.  The GPA (both CSUS overall and in Government courses) would be calculated out to two decimal places.  Rounding would occur from the third decimal place to the second decimal place and then it would be determined if you reached 3.00.  Thus, a 2.995 GPA would reach 3.00, but a 2.994 would not.

Graduate students must have completed nine (9) graduate credits in Government or International Affairs with no grade lower than a B.  Undergraduate coursework does not count towards graduate student eligibility, and graduate students must be pursuing a degree in Government or International Affairs.

Evidence of membership is provided by a certificate (along with an enamel lapel pin) which the chapter presents to its new members.  In addition, if you wish to purchase a ΠΣΑ Graduation Medallion and/or an Honor Cord (see Pi Sigma Alpha Merchandise), you can add the cost for these items to your initiation fee check.  These items are available only to the chapter and cannot be ordered by individual members.
