Welcome to the Gerontology Program
at Sacramento State
The Gerontology Program at Sacramento State provides students with a unique interdisciplinary look at the process of aging. Bachelor students will enroll in courses spanning many different disciplines and will have the opportunity to enroll in a wide variety of elective courses.
Our Program is proud of its past and present:
- We have had an active and growing Minor Program since the 1970s.
- We have been actively recruiting and graduating students in the Major (Bachelor of Science) since 1991 .
- We implemented the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology in Fall 2000 through the College of Continuing Education and began offering it directly through our On-Campus Program in Fall 2008.
- We offer an individualized Special Master's Program concentrating in Gerontology and one other area of study. Special Master's students develop and title their degree according to their specific goals.
- We continue to grow and be very dynamic, offering and sponsoring community programs about longevity and other issues related to Gerontology.
Our Plans for the 21st Century include:
- Enhancing and updating current courses for Gerontology students as well as for students from other disciplines throughout the University.
- Enhancing and updating educational programs for community members to address the demographic imperatives of the new millennium.
- Continuing to add service learning components to courses to facilitate application of theory to practice.
- Providing more opportunities for student involvement in community projects.
