Registration problem trouble-shooting

If you are attempting to enroll in classes and find that the registration system won't accept your request, please check the following list for typical problems.

• REGISTRATION HOLDS -  These are typically due to library or parking fines, or academic probation. Check your MySacState account under “Holds” to see if any exist.
• UNIT LIMIT – Be sure that there is room for the course in your schedule.  Early registration has a lower unit limit than late registration.  Probationary status can lower your overall unit cap regardless of the registration period.
• MAJOR STATUS - Be sure that your MySacState account shows your major as "CRJ" if you are attempting to add restricted CRJ classes. Note that CRJ 101 and 102 are now restricted to declared CRJ majors, effective Fall 2012.
• PRE-REQUISITES - Check whether the course has pre-requisites and that you have completed them; students may not take a course the same semester as its prerequisite.
• ENGL 109X/CRJ 190 - Enroll yourself in ENGL 109X; then go to the CRJ Division office (ALP-137) to have CRJ 190 added to your schedule manually.
• KNOWN REGISTRATION ISSUES - If none of the above issues apply, we have found an ongoing enrollment issue with CRJ 101, 102, 121, 123, 150 series, and 190. Many students attempting to add these courses find that the registration system will not allow enrollment, even if there is an open seat.  If this is the case, go to the CRJ Division office (ALP-137) immediately for assistance.  The Division staff are happy to assist qualified students in adding courses on a "first-come, first-served" basis in the CRJ office, but cannot accept phone or email requests. 

Suspension of Minor

The minor in Criminal Justice is suspended until further notice, pending curricular review.

The Division of Criminal Justice is no longer accepting admissions to the minor in Criminal Justice, pending further curricular review.(This does not affect the FORI minor for Chemistry and Biology students.)

Program impaction

The Chancellor's Office of the California State University has granted the Division of Criminal Justice impaction status for its undergraduate program effective Fall 2012. Students applying to the major are required to submit a supplemental application. New applicants, including transfer students, must be admitted to the University prior to applying to the major.

Are you waitlisted for a class?

The waitlist function of the registration system is a tool to help students add a fully subscribed class to their schedules when space becomes available.  However, if a student is not eligible for the course in some way, the student will not be added.

If you have a waitlisted course on your schedule, be aware that the following conditions  WILL PREVENT YOU FROM BEING ADDED TO THE COURSE.

• REGISTRATION HOLDS -  These are typically due to library or parking fines, or academic probation. Check your MySacState account under “Holds” to see if any exist.

• ALREADY ENROLLED IN THE SAME COURSE – If you have successfully added a course, but you are waitlisted for another section, the registration system will skip you and take the next eligible student; you will never be added if you are already enrolled for another course section.

• TIME CONFLICT – Be sure that you have not requested a waitlisted class that is at the same time as another course on your schedule.  If a time conflict exists, the registration system will skip you and take the next eligible student.

• UNIT LIMIT – Be sure that there is room for the course in your schedule.  Early registration has a lower unit limit than late registration.  Probationary status can lower your overall unit cap regardless of the registration period.

A final note:

• Remember that being waitlisted means you are NOT ENROLLED in a class.

• Waitlists are DELETED right before the semester starts.  On the first day of classes, an instructor has no way of knowing if a student wishing to add was ever on a waitlist.

• Registration system waitlists do NOT confer priority for students who wish to add.  It is up to the instructor’s discretion to add eligible students to their class if they choose.

A Student To-Do List

• Check your schedule on MySacState.  Do your classes have green checkmarks next to them (enrolled) or do they have blue X's (dropped)?  Are there any classes that shouldn't be there? Remember, if you were on a wait list, you are not added until the class is listed with a green checkmark.
• Check your fee balance and fee due dates on MySacState. Many students get dropped out of their courses because they forgot to pay their fees on time.
• Look up your Student ID number on MySacState. Social Security numbers may not be used on any University forms. You will need your Student ID number for all University business, so it would be helpful to note it down for later.

Note for Registration

Some Sac State students may notice that some courses have some odd course section numbers, where the sequence goes 01, 02, 03, and then skips to 50.

CRJ courses with a course section number of 50 or above are sections assigned to a cohorted program run through the College of Continuing Education.  These courses are not available to regular Sac State students.
