WESTERN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL AWARDS
A. At the 2010 Annual Meeting, the Association anticipates the following
seven awards provided through the WPSA and the Political Research
Quarterly.:
Dissertation Award: For the best doctoral dissertation
completed at a university within the regional groupings of the WPSA
between July 1 and June 30 of the previous academic year. ($250 award)
Pi Sigma Alpha Award: For the best paper presented
at the previous WPSA annual meeting. ($500 award)
The Betty Nesvold Women and Politics Award: For the
best paper on women and politics presented at the previous Annual Meeting
of the WPSA. ($250 award)
WPSA Best Paper Award on Latina/Latino Politics: For
an out-standing paper on Latina/Latino politics and its relative aspects.
($250 award)
Award by Committee on the Status of Blacks: For an
outstanding paper discussing issues and problems which concern most
Black Americans. ($250 award)
Charles Redd Award for Best Paper on the Politics of the American
West: an award offered jointly by the WPSA and the Charles
Redd Center for Western Studies of Brigham Young University for the
best paper on the politics of the American West presented at the previous
Convention of the WPSA. Papers may cover a broad range of topics--governance,
policy, culture, politics--and may compare the West to other regions.
($250 award)
The Political Research Quarterly Best Article Award.
This award is given for the best article published by the PRQ during
the prior calendar year. ($1000 award)
WPSA Best Paper in Environmental Political Theory Award: for
the best paper in environmental political theory presented at the annual
WPSA meeting. ($250 award) THIS IS A NEW WPSA AWARD!
B. The following guidelines are to be noted by persons submitting work:
- With the exception of the PRQ Award, no previously published material
is to be submitted.
- Review processes for each award are conducted by award committees
consisting of at least three political scientists. The review process
is anonymous.
- WPSA awards carry a monetary prizes determined by the Executive Council,
or, in the case of the PRQ award, determined by the PRQ Editors.
- As part of the long-standing commitment of the Association to have
the
Political Research Quarterly reflect the intellectual strengths of the
organization, WPSA paper award winners are provided with an enhanced
opportunity to seek publication of the paper in PRQ. Papers receiving
WPSA
awards will be offered the opportunity of an expedited review. If, after
the
first review, an award winning paper does not meet the normal publication
standards as determined by the editor(s), at least one opportunity to
revise
and resubmit will be provided to the author(s). There is no guarantee
that
papers will be published, but the editors will make every effort to
work with
authors to bring manuscripts to the level required by the normal peer
review
process. Papers must be submitted through the web-based submission
system within six months of receipt of the award.
- Winners of the Awards are announced at the Annual Meeting of the
WPSA.
