Philosophy Department Essay Contests

The Sacramento State Philosophy Department normally sponsors two essay contests each year.

The Perry Weddle Annual Essay Contest is held during the fall. The winner is the student majoring or minoring in philosophy who submits the best philosophical essay of any length on any topic.  The winner receives $250.00.

The Nammour Essay Contest is held during the spring in conjunction with the Nammour Symposium. Students submit short papers relating to the theme of the Symposium for that year. Up to three students are seleted as winners of this contest. Winners received $200.00 and present their papers on a student panel at the Nammour Symposium.
