WRITING INSTRUCTOR SERVICE GUIDELINES
SIGNING UP WITH THE INSTRUCTOR
- Upon referral for Writing Instruction from the SSWD Counselor/Specialist, an eligible student may sign up for a one hour block of time, with up to two hours TOTAL per week. SSWD's writing tutoring service is available for undergraduate coursework only.
- It is strongly advised that students make recurring weekly appointments throughout the semester. This is much more effective in improving student writing than occasional “drop-in” appointments.
- If a student is 15 minutes late for his or her tutoring session, the instructor may work with a drop-in for the duration of that time.
Two unexcused absences for instruction appointments will require a meeting with Counselor/Specialist to discuss attendance before the tutorial service continues. An unexcused absence is defined as failure to notify the Writing Instructor of an absence before the scheduled absence. Repeated no-shows may result in that student losing the privilege of reserving time with a writing tutor and would then receive assistance on a drop-in basis only.
It is important that the student arrive prepared for the instruction session to make the most effective use of the valuable time for themselves and the Writing Instructor.
SSWD writing services are only available for eligible students to the extent that the resource allows.
