Educating the tech workforce of tomorrow

stem 01

Sacramento State is working to attract more young people to the sciences, give them a rigorous education, and advance them into graduate studies and the job market. In order to do that, we are working with area schools, colleges, universities, and employers to create a seamless STEM “pipeline.” Our region’s future depends on it.

The Reflect Home – solar powered home construction at Sac State
Sacramento State is one of just 20 universities worldwide selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to compete in the Solar Decathlon 2015 which challenges collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. After months of planning, designing, fundraising, and meeting the DOE’s stringent planning deadlines, Sac State’s Team Solar NEST (Natural, Elegant, Sustainable, Tranquility) is now building its Reflect Home on campus. The home will be transported to Irvine this fall where they will have eight days to reassemble it in time for the competition. Following the Solar Decathlon, Sac State’s NEST home will return to campus, where it will be used as a learning lab for students.
