Degree Requirements

Minor

The Minor in Women’s Studies emphasizes the position and achievement of women in various fields of study. It requires 21 units, all of which must be in upper division courses. The Minor includes three required courses: WOMS 110 (Introduction to Women’s Movements), WOMS 115 (Introduction to Women’s Studies), and WOMS 180 (Seminar in Feminist Theory). Twelve units of electives are required. Refer to CSUS catalog for categories and course listings.

 

Special Major

The Special Major allows for specially designed patterns of study leading to a degree when academic and professional aims are not adequately accommodated by standard degree program. A Special Major requires 36 units comprising Women’s Studies code, service, and cross-listed courses. Two introduction courses are strongly recommended. A student interested in a special major should contact the Women’s Studies Coordinator.

 

Special Major Graduate Program

Outstanding graduates who meet the requirements for admission to the Special Major Graduate Degree Program and are eligible for classified admission to a department offering a regular graduate program can undertake an alternative course of study in Women’s Studies leading to a Special Major Master of Arts Degree. The Special Major Graduate Degree requires 20 units comprising Women’s Studies code, service, and cross-listed graduate and undergraduate courses. A student interested in the special Major Graduate program should contact the Women’s Studies Coordinator.
