Prof. Hayashigatani's research interests are focused
on comparative studies of the U.S. and Japanese newspapers, and
the varing levels of the Japanese language, particularly speech
patterns of women and how these patterns act as a barrier to both
career and social mobility. He is working towards collection oral
histories of Issei (first-generation Japanese-Americans), Northern
California pioneers. His creative interests include Japanese calligraphy
and brush painting.
