The Office of the Vice President is involved in various special projects for the University. One of the special projects, is The ABA Speaker Series.

The ABA Speaker Series

This is a continuation of a successful ABA Guest Speaker Program established in 1996 which provided information about quality programs and methodology and promoted quality improvement efforts. This new Series will have a broader focus and include general topics of interest to the campus community.The purpose of the Series is to provide an open, unbiased forum for the exchange of ideas and bring intellectual enrichment to the campus community. The Series will feature speakers from private industry, government agencies, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations.

A guest speaker will be invited to campus once a semester. The third speaker, Margaret Y. Wong, President and CEO of McWong Environmental and Energy Group is scheduled for November 29, 2012. See attached flyer for details.

State of the Hispanic Community

On March 2, 2012, on behalf of the University, the Office of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer sponsored the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SHCC) 40th Annual Business Awards and Recognition Gala.

The event was held at the Hyatt Regency, Sacramento with an audience that was primarily civic and business leaders. For registration and more information on SHCC, go to www.sachcc.org.

The Hispanic community is growing at a tremendous rate. In less than a decade it has been projected that our region will be over 50% Hispanic. This fast-paced growth will have major implications for the Hispanic community. It will affect workforce, education, public budgets and policy, recreation, neighborhoods and a host of other areas. The “State of Hispanics” event consisted of a data-based presentation which painted an overall picture of the Hispanic community. It laid out current demographics in our region, trends into the future and some of the current and future issues faced by the region due to the growth of Hispanics.

Chief Administrators / Business Officers (CABO)

We hosted the 2008 CABO meeting at Sacramento State. The Chief Administrators /Business Officers (CABO) is a group composed of the 23-campus Vice Presidents / CFOs from across the California State University.

CABO meets bimonthly to review current issues, both system wide and on campuses, and provide advice to the system Chief Financial Officer and senior Human Resources officer. The range of subject matter considered by the group includes the state support budget, capital design and construction, investment, insurance, and financial reporting amongst others.

There are several functional groups in the CSU that report through CABO including the Financial Officers, Auxiliary Organizations, Human Resources and Facilities Services.

Western Association of College Business Officers (WACUBO)

Since 1937, The Western Association of College and University Business Officers has offered business officers in the western region opportunities to develop professionally, to identify solutions for issues affecting higher education, and to share their expertise with their colleagues. Membership includes institutions in 14 western United States, three Canadian Provinces, Mexico and other Pacific Rim nations.

WACUBO is one of four regional associations (Central, Eastern, Southern, Western) making up the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Headquartered in Washington DC, NACUBO is well known for its informational resources and professional representations of the needs and interests of higher education.
