External Relations
Vice President Stephen Garcia has been a member of various external organizations since his appointment with Sacramento State in 2004. His participation in the Sacramento community includes the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SHCC) and the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce (SBCC).
In addition to the Annual Installation Banquets, Vice President Stephen Garcia periodically attends the Sacramento Chamber Alliance Mixers. These Mixers are a great way to expand our network by meeting members in the Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC), SBCC, and SHCC. These events also provide the opportunity to meet and mingle with key Sacramento businesses.
As part of the President's Destination 2010 vision, Vice President Stephen Garcia is embracing one of the Destination 2010 goals, developing community support, by:
- Increasing our visibility
- Expanding our advocacy base
- Encouraging broader community financial support
Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce (SBCC)
Vice-President Stephen Garcia will be sponsoring a table at the 24th Annual Installation & Awards Banquet on December 3, 2009.
Mayor of the City of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, was the key-note speaker at the 23th Annual Installation & Awards Banquet on November 13, 2008.

Joseph Serna, Jr. Scholarship
Sacramento State sponsors the Joe Serna, Jr. Scholarship reception through Vice President Stephen Garcia annually. This year's Scholarship Program reception was held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the University Union Ballroom. In 2008, the SHCC awarded scholarships totalling $54, 500 to 53 deserving students in the Sacramento area. Eight (8) of the recipients were Sacramento State students.

Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SHCC)
Vice President Stephen Garcia, has been a member of the SHCC since he took the Vice President post at Sacramento State. As a member, he has participated in various functions including the recent Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Gala held in February 2009. On behalf of the University, Vice President Stephen Garcia sponsored three tables at the event.
