2008 CSU Quality Improvement (QI) Program Champion Award

Stephen Garcia, Vice President for
Administration, received the 2008 CSU Quality
Improvement (QI) Program Champion Award. The award
recognizes the efforts of an individual who has
demonstrated leadership in pursuit of quality
improvement on a campus, or system-wide. |
Garcia was recognized for:
-
Long-term
leadership for Quality Improvement programs in the CSU
through focused and successful efforts at two campuses –
CSU, San Marcos, and Sacramento State.

Leadership of QI programs
characterized by significant utilization of QI tools –
including Strategic Planning, Balanced Scorecard
Strategy Map, measurement and assessment.

Emphasis on
communication and workforce engagement through personal
attention, information-sharing, inclusion of staff in
planning activities, and support for a variety of
staff-focused programs, including the provision of
recognition and discussion opportunities, newsletters,
committee memberships, etc.

Promotion of a
culture of collaborative decision-making at both the
division and campus level, notably the provision of staff
expertise and data to support of the University’s budget
committee, as a way to promote transparency and effective
decision-making.
This is the second
system-wide award for Garcia, who received the CSU QI Distinguished
Service award in 2004.
