DESTINATION 2010

ABA Staff Professionals Support Destination 2010

STAFF PERSPECTIVE

Name: Greg Revelez III

How long at Sac State : 21 years (on July 7, 2007)

Department: Public Safety

Job Title: Investigator Corporal

Responsibilities: My primary responsibility is to conduct criminal and administrative investigations on campus, and off campus with multi-jurisdictional cases. I handle case tracking, crime analysis and statistics, and I am the department liaison with the District Attorney’s Office, the Department of Justice and the County Crime Lab. I am also the department representative to various campus and local committees and I give crime prevention and safety presentations on campus. In addition, I serve as the coordinator for a number of programs, including the Critical Reach Information System.

What makes you most proud of the work you do?

Being a police officer is a tough job – the screening process is rigorous, and those of us who pass it are very proud of that. But I am most proud of the opportunity to work with other officers and know that we are helping our community everyday. Police officers here at Sacramento State have a strong community and service focus. Department policy encourages officers to get out of their cars, walk around, visit buildings, and take the time to talk with people. Unlike most police departments, we respond to all complaints and incident reports and encourage questions – about suspicious persons, disturbances of the peace, etc. – not just crime-related issues.

What makes you proud to be a member of the Sac State community?

I have always loved learning. The faculty, staff and students here are dedicated. I like telling people I meet that I am from Sac State. I tell them how beautiful the campus is, how nice it is to work with students, and how well the faculty and staff get along with the Police Department. The work our campus does is vital, and everyone here is important, no matter what job they do.

In a word, how would you describe Sac State ?

Vibrant

What is your idea of a welcoming campus?

My idea of a welcoming campus is helping people with a smile on your face and a good attitude. I always try to follow the golden rule and treat people the way I want to be treated. I learned over the years that kindness goes a long way toward making someone feel welcome. I know that I am an ambassador for the campus and for my profession, and I act accordingly.

Of all the upcoming plans for Sac State , what is the most important to you?

I’m excited by the challenge of improving our campus. A lot more has changed over the last four years than over the last 16. To me, the Recreation, Wellness & Events Center is the most important project, because I think it will help make us a destination campus.

What do think will have the most impact in the future?

Some of the projects proposed – like the planned science building/planetarium, performance center, stadium improvements and connector roadways, the ability to hold graduation on campus – all of those things will change us from a commuter to a residential campus and make people want to spend time here. Once all of these pieces fall into place, we will be a destination campus.

Additional comments about ABA, Sac State or Destination 2010?

The changes that have taken place in the last few years have been phenomenal. I like the direction the campus is going in and cannot wait to see what it looks like in another twenty years!
