Housing Facilities & Grounds
Custodial Services: Each building is assigned a custodian team that is responsible for the general cleanliness and appearance of the building. Their primary work area is the public areas of a building, which includes bathrooms, recreation rooms, kitchens, and lobbies. Students are responsible to clean their rooms. Custodians do not clean occupied student rooms unless they have a work order and is directed by their Supervisor to do the work. Custodians generally work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The majority of restrooms are cleaned while students are away to class between the hours of 9:30am- 2:00pm. Custodians will close down an unoccupied restroom by placing a No Entry sign at the door and then reopen the cleaned restroom for student use when the floor is dry. Residents and staff shall not use the bathroom when it is closed for cleaning. Restrooms are not available for use during cleaning times due to the use of chemicals that may be dangerous to the skin.
After Hours /Weekends
Custodial coverage on weekends is limited. Most weekend coverage work includes “trashing out” the bathrooms and restocking the supplies such as toilet paper and paper towels. The bathrooms are not cleaned to the standard that is typical during the normal work week. If a restroom needs major attention over a weekend, that area may be locked off and the regular custodian will address it on Monday. Weekend cleaning times will vary but restrooms will still be closed off when they are being cleaned.
Cleaning supplies can be obtained for Residence Hall front Desk by submitting a work order. The typical supplies that are requested: Trash bags, Absorbent, Glass cleaner, Germicidal (Cleaner for disinfecting an area), Multipurpose cleaner (Will clean an area but not disinfect it), Sponges, bucket & rags.
