The office of the chief is responsible for the administrative duties of the Department which include personnel management and training, budgeting, special events planning, and coordination with the campus community and outside agencies.
The Sacramento State University Chief of Police is Daniel J. Davis. Chief Davis is a Bay Area native and started working at the Sacramento State Police Department in 2002.
He has held the positions in the Fremont Police Department, BART Police Department and the San Francisco State Police Department in addition to working at Sacramento State. During his career, he has worked as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain.
In addition, students are employed through the University Police Department as Community Service Officers, with primary responsiblity for additional patrol to the campus grounds and Residential Life complex.
