"ABA's Bursar's Office recently concluded a school supply drive on behalf of the Guardian Scholars Program here at Sac State.the Guardian Scholars Program distributed fliers throughout campus alerting offices of their donation drive, seeking supplies for students of their program, in need of every day supplies such as notepads, binders, paper, pens, pencils, etc." Read More

Alumni Month 2016

"It’s a Sac State tradition to celebrate the University’s alums during the month of April. This year, over half of ABA’s staff alums came out show their support, participating in a group photo near the Guy West Bridge. In ABA, over 55 staff members are Sac State grads, holding degrees that range from bachelors’ and masters’ to doctorates. And more than 30 of them showed up for the celebratory photo." Read More

Sustainability Team Recognized for Best Practices and Innovations

"In March, the CSU Chancellor's office announced the winners from the 2016 Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practices competition, with Sac State's Sustainability Team receiving multiple awards. New Compost Project Diverts Food Waste

"This fall marks the beginning of a noteworthy waste-reduction effort at Sac State, as the sustainability team partners with Dining Commons to divert 100 percent of its food waste. Through the Organic Compost Project, the waste will be provided to third party vendors, Republic Services and Clean World, where it will be converted to clean burning gas." Read More

Stormwater Management

"Sacramento State’s Office of Water Programs (OWP) and ABA have teamed up with the City of Sacramento to install new stormwater management devices on campus. The devices, also known as Low Impact Device (LID) zones, are intended to reduce stormwater impacts to the American and Sacramento rivers. Stormwater runoff from urban development is one of the leading contributors to water quality degradation." Read More

"In October, 2015, the Procurement & Contract Services Office received the Campus Marketplace Award as part of a team representing the CSU, the UC and the CCC system. The award was presented at the 2015 California Public Higher Education Collaborative Business Conference. Reprographics Supports Student Athletics

"In the shadow of March Madness, Sacramento State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams were setting records of their own with their excellent play on the court. The men’s team had their best record since joining Division I in 1991 with a record of 21-12, while the women’s team made their first postseason run in school history, making it to the sweet 16." Sustainability Team Hosts Annual Mulching Mania Event

"On March 19, 2015, the Sustainability Team held their annual Mulching Mania event in the quad near the Riverfront Center with the goal of promoting water conservation. Volunteers, spanning several student groups on campus, including Alpha Phi Omega, and the Full Circle Project, spread mulch under 53 trees in the main quad, and across the entire rose garden." "On March 18, 2015, ABA welcomed Kunal Merchant in its most recent installation of the ABA Speaker Series. Merchant is the Sacramento Kings' vice president of Strategic Initiatives. In this capacity, he oversees a portfolio of top strategic, political and community initiatives for the Kings, with a special focus on advancing progress on the new downtown entertainment and sports center scheduled to open in the fall of 2016." Sac State Supports Run to Feed the Hungry

"On Thanksgiving, participants of the 2014 Run to Feed the Hungry campaign were greeted with signs welcoming them to Sacramento State near the main entrance along J Street and State University Drive. Water Conservation Efforts Pay Off

"Many efforts have been made to reduce water use on campus, through plants that consume less water, and the installation and replacement of 519 toilets and bathroom fixtures, campuswide. Sustainability Team Adopts a Mile

"Sac State's Sustainability Team joined the American River Parkway Foundation's Adopt the Parkway program as the Volunteer Steward for "Mile 7 South" of the parkway. This means that they will act as the volunteer coordinator for litter clean-up efforts along the river. In addition, they will monitor the area for needed improvements, reporting broken picnic tables and other issues to the American River Parkway Foundation." Read More

New Bike Paths & Bike Compounds Welcome Back Students

"Over the summer, UTAPS, in coordination with Facilities Services, Public Safety, and the city of Sacramento, installed dedicated bike paths throughout Sacramento State’s campus.These bright green painted zones cover close to five miles of the campus, and indicate specific pathways for bicycle riders, accommodating students and the campus community, as well as visitors to the campus." "For many years, ABA has supported the campus-wide California State Employees Food Drive, the annual campaign that seeks donations to supply local food closets for many years. This year, the Sustainability Team from Facilities Management takes charge of the campus campaign.The team will handle logistical support, such as the provision of containers and pick-up and delivery of donations from across the campus." "Early this month, Sacramento State was the proud recipient of CSU Best Practices awards from the CSU for efforts in two categories. Ticket Office Improves Customer Service

"The University Ticket Office is newly equipped with a dynamic ticketing system which promises to improve efficiency and services to customers. Solar Project Powers Up

"Sacramento State is taking its latest energy conservation efforts to the roof. Over the next few weeks, solar panels are being installed on the roofs of the Library and The WELL, as part of the University’s Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation Project, which is estimated to generate around 700,000 annual kilowatt-hours (kWh) of solar electricity for the campus." "Clean, functional and well-lit facilities are fundamental to a successful teaching and learning environment. With this philosophy in mind, Facilities Services zone managers set out in the spring to assess the condition of campus buildings. Based on a standard set of criteria, some 175 classrooms were slated for upgrades beginning in May. "On March 15, ABA welcomed Dale Carlsen, CEO of Sleep Train Mattress Centers as part of ABA's Speaker Series. The Speaker Series brings community leaders to Sac State to share knowledge in their fields of business or expertise. As a proud alumni of Sac State, earning a degree in Real Estate, Finance and Insurance in 1984, Mr. Carlsen spoke of some valuable words he received from his father. Building Bridges, Zone by Zone

"Facilities Services has launched its new customer-friendly work facilitation process: the Zone Manager Program. The concept enhances the current Facilities Services function by allowing for a more direct connection with customers throughout the campus community. Each building has been assigned to one of four distinct Zones."

Campus Buildings Get Smart

"The University’s Smart Grid project is off to a running start, with the installation of new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls in Capistrano Hall, which kicked off Phase I in the fall. The Smart Grid will provide 80 smart meters (one or more) for every building on campus. The meters will record the consumption of electric energy and then communicate the information back to central energy information software, helping to identify poor performing buildings." Read More

"Sacramento State's newly appointed Police Chief Mark M. Iwasa assumed his post as chief and director of Public Safety in January, just as the campus reopened after the holiday break. "Sac State's Ticket Office is on the move. March 5, ABA’s newest charge pairs up with Athletics ticketing at a new location in the recently renovated Athletics Center, the facility that housed the Student Health Center before its move to the WELL. The centralization of Athletics ticketing and the Ticket Office will create internal efficiencies and markedly improve convenience for the campus community and the public." Read More

ABA Supports UFL Mountain Lions

"In October 2011, the Sacramento Mountain Lions held their 2011 season opener at the Sac State Alex G. Spanos Sports and Recreation Complex. Being the home game season opener following a successful 2010 season, ABA and others supporting the event were prepared to provide a seamless experience for the team and fans. Being the only California United Football League team, expectations were high. Just about all of ABA's departments are involved in event preparation, working with other campus entities to ensure success." Read More
