In March 2011, Administration & Business Affairs managers, Justine Heartt and Kathi McCoy, served as faculty for the CSU 101 workshop sponsored by the CSU Financial Officers Association. CSU 101 faculty members develop coursework and teach and mentor students of the three-day course, typically new campus employees with financial responsibilities. The topic areas cover a broad range of information about the CSU and its financial structure and processes, including:

  • Organization of and history and facts about the CSU
  • The CSU business and financial structure
  • System and campus budget processes
  • Systemwide financial services such as risk management, sponsored programs and process improvement initiatives
  • The revenue management program, including banking, cash management and investment issues
  • Campus financial services – how they operate and inter-relate
  • Campus auxiliaries
  • Audits and ethics
  • Taxes

Justine Heartt, associate vice president for Financial Services, delivered a presentation on Accounting, while the university’s auditor Kathi McCoy presented the Audits, Internal Controls, Fraud, and Ethics portion of the workshop.

FOA was established to assist the CSU, under the direction of the Chief Administrative/Business Officers (CABO) group, by providing leadership and advice on a variety of issues related to accounting and budgeting in the CSU. CSU 101 facilitates professional development and training of financial officers and their staff toward this end.
