I am proud to be a Hornet because I love everything this campus has to offer. It’s a great campus with great people. I love everything about Sac State.

Where is the best place to study on campus and why?
The best place to study on campus is in the classrooms in the ARIC because there is lots of space and a white board that you can use in your study groups.  The ARIC is open 24 hours, 7 days a week so it provides a safe and useful location to meet with study groups and focus on your work.

I love to kick off my shoes and study in the grassy field between the Riverfront Center and Lassen Hall.

What advice would you give to first year students?
My advice to first year students would be to connect with their professors during their office hours because beyond strengthening your comprehension of the course and the professor’s teaching style, professors are excellent mentors in education and career choices.

What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the second floor of the library.  I study best at a quiet table in the back of the library and have grown to enjoy my comfortable “study spot.”

What advice would you give to first year students?
Go to your professor’s office hours!  In classes of 100+ students, professors do not have time to learn or care for each student.  Going to office hours will help you build a relationship with your professor, receive help on assignments and tests, and will show that you care.

What advice would you give to first year students?
My advice to students would be to be proud that you are here at Sacramento State. Have lots of Hornet Pride and get involved. This will really help you feel like you have a place here at Sacramento State. It is a wonderful campus so get involved on campus today!

What is your favorite place on campus?
I am always at the WELL, whether it is for a workout, intramurals, or club activities. I think it was a great addition to the campus and offers the students a large variety of activities and services! Every student should try to attend a class or try an intramural sport this year!

Why are you proud to be a Hornet?
I go to a great school, with staff and faculty that really want to see students like myself succeed. I love how diverse our campus is and how every student has something to contribute to our Sac State community! Also, we have a wonderful outside community that is very supportive of the local students.

What has been your favorite class at Sacramento State and why?

My favorite class at Sacramento State was Honors 3 because I had an amazing professor who always gave our class the tools to have life-altering discussions and debates. I loved her class so much that I returned the next semester as the teacher assistant.

What advice would you give to first year students?

Never let your fears stop you from speaking out and/or get involved. Live your college life to the fullest and participate in as many things as possible. Before you know it, your college years will be gone forever.

Cross-cultural psychology with Dr. Kim-Ju was my favorite class at Sac State because the professor was awesome and it is interesting to learn about how our culture can affect the way we think and act.

What has been your favorite class at Sacramento State and why?

So far, my favorite class has been Social Psychology because I loved learning about why we social beings act the way that we do.   

What is your favorite activity to participate in at Sac State?

My favorite activity is to get involved on campus whether it is through a Sac State club or organization.  Being a member of something makes me feel so much more connected to campus.

Where is the best place to study on campus and why?

I really enjoy studying in the AIRC (2nd floor) and the library collaborative. Both have the perfect mix of noise and quiet to keep me focused on studying without boring me entirely or making me sleepy. The food/coffee in close proximity also helps.

What is one of the best Sac State professors you have had and why?

I really enjoyed taking molecular cell biology (Bio 121) with Dr. Landerholm. Although his class was difficult, his obvious passion for the subject made lecture fun and interesting. Also, he was happy to meet with students one-on-one to make sure they understood the course material.

The Well. I love the atmosphere and working out at a facility that offers so many things! It not only offers a place for students to work out, but to watch food demonstrations, and seek help at the health center as well.

Where is the best place to eat on campus and why?
I love Good Eats! They have the best sandwiches on campus, and they make good breakfast.  The staff is friendly and the lines are split depending on the food you buy, making them faster.

Where is the best place to study on campus and why?
The best place to study on campus is the AIRC. There are plenty of connections, comfy chairs, space, and printers. There is not too much noise, and there is tons of food nearby for when you want to take a study break.

What is your favorite place on campus?
The River Front dining area! This is where I had my first on-campus job. It’s also home to my favorite spots to eat like the Gyro2go and TOGO’S! The future starbucks will be here too!

What has been one of your favorite classes at Sacramento State and why?
Psych 151 - Death & Dying. Don’t let the title fool you it’s such an interesting class. Though the subject matter can be difficult you learn so much about this phase of life.

What advice would you give first year students?
Get involved! Don’t be afraid to reach out to others or to join clubs that you are interested in. It will definitely make your years at Sac State much more enjoyable and make you truly feel a part of something.

What has been one of your favorite classes at Sacramento State and why?
My favorite class at Sac State has been Chem 5 for Nursing. When most people talk about this class, they mention that they dislike the difficulty of it. I, on the other hand, absolutely loved it. It was such a challenging class and actually made me want to get involved and learn. I learned so much for nursing and found a new appreciation for Chemistry after taking this class.

What advice would you give to first year students?
Don’t feel pressured to declare a major right away, many of my friends have changed their major after taking a GE course they loved, so take a variety of classes, do research, and find what you love!

My favorite class was my learning community with CSC 21. This is because it set the tone for my first year of college. It helped me get involved with the campus as well make a ton of friends who shared my major.

I have participated in a ton of activities at Sac State. It is really hard to just pick one. Some of my favorites are: the WELLcome Back, the Amazing Race, and the Fun Run.

What has been one of your favorite classes at Sacramento State and why?
History of the American West. This class provided me with a new and valuable perspective on familiar topics of our history and culture. I love learning new things about areas I thought I had already understood thoroughly.

What is one of your favorite Sac State professors and why?
Professor Holland. He loves his material and tells a great story. His lectures were always enjoyable. He helped me improve my research and writing skills.

My favorite place on campus is the library quad because I always see familiar faces and there is always something going on whether it’s an event, information tables set up, or just people hanging out.

What advice would you give to first year students?
My advice would be to get involved in a club and/or organization that sparks your interest! If you can’t find one that seems to fit your mold, create your own! Balance is going to be the most valuable skill that first year students will learn at Sac State.  Finding an organizational method that works for you will make your life that much easier.

What has been your favorite class at Sacramento State and why?
HIST 169 (Hollywood in America) - Within the last few years, I have become really interested in movies. This class provided me with the background and development of cinema in the U.S. I was exposed to great works of art and it solidified Harrison Ford as my favorite actor of all time.

Since as long as I can remember, I always dreamed of running my own business. There is something about being in control and facing risks that gets me excited.  

What has been one of your favorite moments at Sacramento State?
I was having lunch in the hornets’ nest one day and the CSUS Chancellor, Timothy P. White, sat down across the table and introduced himself. As we started to discuss the importance of a college degree, in the corner of my eye, I caught the KCRA film crew capturing our conversation. I came home that night and found myself on the KCRA channel for the first time!

Where is the best place to study on campus and why?
The Multi-Cultural Center (MCC). The staff are extremely helpful if you need any help and during mid-term or finals week, they provide you with free school supplies such as Blue/Green Books, highlighters, post-it notes, and snacks.

What is your favorite activity to particpate in at Sac State?
During my free time, I enjoy indoor rock climbing at the WELL with friends.  The WELL is also a great place to meet new people!

I chose this school for academics and its reputation within my field, but being an athlete magnifies things to a different level. Whenever I put on the uniform, not only do I represent myself and my team, but also the entire Sacramento State community.

What advice would you give to first year students?
Utilize the resources the Career Center provides for all students. They have wonderful staff that help you prepare for the real world and help you take proactive steps towards desired career path. Four to five years of college will go by in a glance, so use that time to set up a successful road after college.

What advice would you give to first year students?
Make an effort to start off on the right foot. Be serious about college now so you don’t have any regrets later. Also, get involved and explore your interests. It makes school so much more enjoyable and helps you to stay engaged. It really makes all the difference!

What has been your favorite class at Sacramento State and why?

Advanced forensic lab techniques, as I was able to pursue my own research project with the assistance of Dr. Ballard.  It was an amazing opportunity to learn how research actually takes place in the lab and how I can make contributions to the scientific community.

What has been one of your favorite moments so far at Sacramento State?

The FYE talent show, so many talented students and peer mentors were able to showcase their skills and it was overall an awesome experience.

CAMP! I was there every day last year. They have microwaves, computers, and great counselors. It is a very tight community that helped me transition from high school to college life.

I love intramural indoor soccer at the WELL. If you enjoy sports it’s a great opportunity to play with friends against other teams during the semester.

I love going to yoga every week with the Yoga and Meditation Club. It keeps me grounded when school and social life get hectic.
