General Education/ Graduation Program Requirements

The General Education Office is responsible for coordinating the University's General Education Program. The office monitors all General Education courses for availability and compliance with university policy. The office administers GE policy and acts as a liaison from Academic Affairs to the Faculty Senate General Education Policy and Graduation Requirements Committee. The General Education Office is a resource for information about General Education. New and innovative General Education programs are explored and evaluated by this office.

The General Education Office is responsible for implementing the CSUS WPE policy and the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement.

The General Education Office acts as the "home department" for special majors and Freshman Seminar courses. The University's Learning Community and First Year Experience Program, the General Education Honors Program, and the Writing Across the Curriculum Program are administered by this office.

Sacramento State is one of 9 pilot sites for the Give Students a Compass Project to model new approaches to general education that increase student learning. The project will explore the LEAP outcomes and LEAP High Impact Practices developed by the American Association of Colleges and Universities. The three year project will follow the Sacramento State Compass Proposal and Sacramento State Compass Work Plan.

CTL will offer a teaching community focusing on engaging GE students, May 26-29. More information at www.ctl.csus.edu
