STUDENT ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT (SAD) PROGRAM GUIDELINES
- 2009/2010

Please read these guidelines carefully before you complete the application. Print a copy of these guidelines for your reference.

NOTE: Incomplete or late applications will be returned.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Student Academic Development Program fund, established with Sacramento State discretionary lottery monies, is to support activities that extend students’ educational experiences beyond the normal instructional environment. We encourage students from all academic disciplines to apply.

ELIGIBLE CATEGORIES:

Individual students and student groups are eligible for these awards. All group projects must be submitted as one application, with pertinent information for each student included. For students attending conferences, only individual applications will be accepted, even if you are traveling as part of a group. The “University Sponsor” signature is REQUIRED.

CATEGORIES:

  1. Attendance at a professional meeting or workshop in the major or related majors. Note: Tuition and membership fees will not be funded.
  2. Development of a special curriculum-related project or presentation, which will be completed by June 30, 2010.
  3. Participation in an academic competition or artistic performance.
  4. Participation in a summer institute that will be completed by June 30, 2010. Note: Tuition and membership fees will not be funded.

Requests may include the costs of in-state or out-of-state registration fees and lodging, and in-state transportation only (i.e., airfare, gasoline). If you are using a travel agency or booking your reservation online, lodging and transportation expenses must be listed separately. EXPENSES CANNOT INCLUDE MEALS. Costs must be incurred in the semester in which the application is submitted.

DEADLINES:

The deadlines for submission of applications are:

5:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2009
for Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 activities
for activities from July 1, 2009-January 24, 2010

5:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010
for Spring 2010 activities
for activities from January 25, 2010-June 30, 2010

NOTIFICATION: All applicants will be notified by mail as soon as possible after these dates, usually within 6 weeks.

AWARDS:

Awards are distributed on a reimbursement basis each semester (after the completion of the project or trip). Original receipts FOR THE STUDENT BEING REIMBURSED, the SAD Final Report Form, a current State of California Vendor Data Record, a completed Release of Liability, Waiver of Right to Sue, Assumption of Risk and Agreement to Pay Claims form, and a signed Sacramento State Direct Payment Request are required for reimbursement.

The general deadlines to submit receipts for reimbursement are:

Fall 2009: Monday, December 14, 2009
Spring 2010: Monday, May 17, 2010

Special arrangements for reimbursement after the deadlines can be requested.

Awards will be granted up to a maximum of $300 per student in an academic year.
