SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE

Single Subject Math Blended Program

Justification:

The proposal is to delete EDTE 116 (Psychology of Instruction, 4 units), EDTE 371C, EDTE 371D, and EDTE 371E (Schools and Communities C, D, and E, 2 units each) and add newly developed courses MATH 316 (The Psychology of Mathematics Instruction, 2 units) and MATH 371A and MATH 371B (Schools and Community A and B, 2 units each).

There are two reasons we are requesting the change.

  1. The existing program has caused serious scheduling difficulties as the current EDTE courses are offered off campus and the math courses are offered on campus.  As a result, math students frequently have difficulty arriving to classes on time.
  1. The current structure of the program exceeds the maximum number of 135 units allowed for Blended Programs by the CSU Office of the Chancellor.   The program was developed before the final requirements for number of units was mandated.  When the discrepancy became evident, the Math Department requested a waiver, but it was not granted.
