Dean for Graduate Studies at California State University
Chevelle Newsome holds a Ph.D. in political communication from the University of Oklahoma and at California State University, Sacramento is a Professor of Communication Studies.
Dr. Newsome’s research interests include ethics in public relations and politics in everyday human interaction. She has published several articles relating to the communication of race in American society and women’s issues in healthcare. In addition, Dr. Newsome is co-author of a resource book on political commentary in the United States. Her university committee and service activities include academic recruitment¸ curriculum development¸ collegiate strategic planning, and diversifying the university professoriate. Her community service work includes serving as communication consultant to various non-profit organizations focused on child welfare and decreasing health disparities in minority communities.
As Acting Dean for Graduate Studies, Dr. Newsome coordinates all graduate programs and advises on policies and regulations pertaining to graduate study, graduate admissions, graduate student programs, graduate fellowships, and the granting of graduate degrees and certificates.
