Interim Assistant Vice President, Academic Programs and Global Engagement

As Interim Assistant Vice President, Academic Programs and Global Engagement, Don Taylor has responsibilities in several of the core areas of academic affairs that promote quality assurance and quality improvement processes for all degree programs. Specifically, he provides leadership and oversight for Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes, reviews annual assessment reports, administers the Collegiate Learning Assessment Test, reviews compliance for various WASC and non-WASC accreditation across the campus, provides support for Program Reviews and Self Studies, assists in leadership of academically-related off-campus initiatives (e.g., Placer Ranch), reviews new degree program proposals, course and program change proposals, responds to some correspondences from the Chancellor’s Office, monitors academically-related policies in the University Policy Manual, develops and implements campus-wide reporting of program excellence across all colleges, serves as the Provost’s designee to Academic Policies Committee and the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Assessment. He also assists the Provost with various managerial functions including coordinating senior management searches.

Dr. Don Taylor who is also Professor of Communication Studies has served in various capacities in the Office of the Provost including Special Assistant to the Provost, Director of Special Projects, and Faculty Fellow (Policies and Programs) since 2001. He also served as the campus’s liaison to administer the US State Department Partnership Grant between Sac State and several universities in the Ivory Coast, West Africa. In 2006-07 Don Taylor was selected as a Fellow of the American Council on Education, a nationally-acclaimed prestigious award for leadership training in higher education in the United States. During his year as an ACE Fellow, Don Taylor worked with the President of Pomona College, in the Claremont University Consortium where he assisted on Strategic Planning for the College.

Don Taylor received his PhD in Communication (Telecommunication) from Kent State University, Ohio with a focus on the role of mass communication in national development. He specializes in international communication, mass communication effects, intercultural communication, and communication training and research. He obtained his M. Phil from the University of Leeds, and his BA with honors from Sheffield City University both in the United Kingdom.
