Program Change Proposals - Undergraduate:

College of Arts and Letters

Department of Communication Studies, General, Media and Digital Media Concentrations, B.A.:  Add requirement of "C-" or better in area courses as well as core courses. Add grade requirement of "B-" or better to Digital Media required lower division courses. No change in total units.

Department of Communication Studies, General, Media and Organizational Concentrations, B.A.:  Pre-major, GPA and portfolio requirements added; notes area moved. No change in total program units.

Department of English, B.A.:  Add Senior Seminar to Additional Requirements - no change in total units.

Department of Humanities and Religious Studies, B.A.:  Change in upper division core requirements-- increase from 6 to 12 units; revision of concentrations - reduced from 21 to 18 units; deletion of several elective courses; reorganized the numbering of its upper division course offerings in order to cluster courses in meaningful ways - no change in overall units.

Journalism, B.A.:  Prior to acceptance as a Journalism major, students must first complete a pre-major consisting of all required lower-division courses plus the upper-division survey course (ComS  100A). Students must successfully complete each pre-major course with a grade of C- or better. Students with a CSUS grade point average of 2.3 or better may request early admission to the major. Majors are required to compile and maintain an assessment portfolio, which must be submitted to the Department office prior to graduation.

Certificates of Academic Achievement in English/Humanities and English/Theatre: Deletion of Existing Programs - program is rarely used and has not appeared in English catalog copy for several years.

Program Change Proposals - Graduate:

College of Arts and Letters

Department of Communication Studies, M.A.:  Reduce number of areas of study from five to four (reduced units from 12 to 9); reduce admission requirement letters of recommendation from four to three; Add ComS 202, Research Methods, to Required Courses (increased from 6 to 9 units). No change in total units.

Department of Theatre and Dance, M.A.:  Reactivate MA in Theatre Arts, which has not accepted applications for the past four years. Interested students were referred to the MA in Liberal Arts, Theatre Concentration.

College of Education

Counseling, Master:  Decreases number of units in core by one from 54 to 53. Brings credential units into line with what is required by National Association of School Psychologists for fieldwork credits and time needed to meet competency requirements.

College of Engineering and Computer Science

Software Engineering, M.S.:  Revision and reorganization of course work. No overall change in units.

College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Department of Biology, New Concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology, M.S.:  Adds a concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology to the existing MS in Biological Sciences. Currently the MS degree has "No Concentration" and "Biological Conservation" concentrations.
