SPECIAL REPORT – 20 minutes

A Change in “Prime Time” Scheduling for the 2002-03 Academic Year

This semester’s larger than expected growth in enrollment has generated increased demand for classrooms during prime time hours.  Given our current scheduling policy, classroom demand is now close to capacity.  With the expected growth in the coming years, a change to the current scheduling policy is necessary.  A faculty and administrative task force has been charged with analyzing this prime time scheduling problem and recommending to the President a solution which can be implemented in the 2002-2003 academic year.  A brief report will be made to the Senate followed by discussion.

BACKGROUND:  The recommended policy on self-support instruction was included in the last Program Review of RCE.  RCE has requested that it be adopted as University policy.  During Spring 2001, the CPC, in consultation with RCE Dean Alice Tom, revised the original recommendation, and we now recommend its adoption as University policy and inclusion in the University manual.

The Faculty Senate recommends adoption of Regional and Continuing Education’s policy (Attachment E) on offering Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Education Hours (CEHs).

FS 01-52/Ex.  GRANT-RELATED INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY (GRIF), POLICY ON

(Background:  In August 1975, the Office of the Chancellor established classification and qualification standards for classes of Grant-Related Instructional Faculty (GRIF) [FSA 75-55].  Hiring of Grant-Related Instructional Faculty would conform with existing policy.)

The Faculty Senate recommends implementation of the Chancellor’s policy on classification and qualification standards for Grant-Related Instructional Faculty (Attachment F).
