The Graduate Advisory Council

 

Charge

 

The Graduate Advisory Council shall serve the Graduate Dean in an advisory, though not policy-making, capacity on matters regarding the recommendation and implementation of principles, policies, and procedures affecting graduate and post-baccalaureate education at California State University, Sacramento. The Graduate Advisory Council shall also provide a forum for communication among coordinators of graduate and post-baccalaureate programs at departmental, college, or university-wide levels.

 

 

Governance and Procedures

 

Principles and procedures governing Graduate Advisory Council actions and decisions shall be determined by the inaugural Council membership and posted on the web page of the Office of Graduate Studies.

 

Agendas, notes, and recommendations related to the meetings and deliberations of the Graduate Advisory Council shall be posted on the web page of the Office of Graduate Studies. Recommendations and information appropriate for Senate action shall be conveyed by the Dean of Graduate Studies to the Chair of the Faculty Senate.  At the end of each academic year, the Graduate Advisory Council shall issue a summary report of its activities and recommendations during the year in question.  The Dean of Graduate Studies shall append a report summarizing the status of recommendations made by the Graduate Advisory Council.   

 

Membership

 

The Dean of Graduate Studies (or her or his designee) shall chair the Graduate Advisory Council in a non-voting capacity. 

 

The Graduate Advisory Council shall consist of 11 members in addition to the Dean:

 

Each College (except the College of Continuing Education) and the Library shall elect a faculty member to serve on the Graduate Advisory Council. The procedures for selecting the faculty member in question are left to the discretion of each of these units, though no individual academic department, no matter the number of its graduate or post-baccalaureate programs or concentrations, shall exercise more than one vote in the selection of a College representative to the Graduate Advisory Council.

 

The Dean of the College of Continuing Education (or her or his designee) shall serve on the Graduate Advisory Council.

 

The Faculty Senate shall appoint a faculty member to serve as its representative to the Graduate Advisory Council.

 

Associated Students, Inc. shall appoint a graduate or post-baccalaureate student to serve as its representative to the Graduate Advisory Council.

 

Terms of Office

 

Through a procedure determined by the inaugural Graduate Advisory Council, terms of the first representatives of the Colleges and the Library shall be staggered to insure longer term continuity of membership on the Council.

 

Beyond the staggered terms of the first representatives of the Colleges and the Library, terms of service shall be two years; no representative shall serve more than two successive terms.

 

The appointee of the Faculty Senate shall serve a one-year term and shall be eligible to serve no more than three consecutive terms.

 

The appointee of the Associated Students, Inc. shall serve a one-year term and shall be eligible to serve no more than three consecutive terms.
