Motion
on Good Standing:
GSPC
recommends that “Graduate students whose Sacramento State and cumulative grade
point average (GPA) is 3.0 or above are considered in good academic standing.”
This
is to be included in the catalog under a subheading identifying
“Post-Baccalaureate / Graduate Academic Action Categories”, to parallel the
same designations used for undergraduates.
Background: There is an Executive Order relating to
academic standing that only applies to undergraduate students. Consistent with that Executive Order, in the
catalog, on p. 102, there is a section entitled, "Undergraduate Academic
Action Categories" which includes definitions of "good
standing", "academic probation," "continued
probation," "academic disqualification," etc. On that same page, for grad students, it
simply says "See Graduate Degree Requirements / Scholarship, page
93." The problem is, page 93 doesn't have these "Academic Action
Categories." Registrar Dennis
Geyer, in the absence of these "academic action categories" for grad
students, has been using the undergraduate standard for good standing, which
stipulates 2.0 or above is "good standing." Aside from the higher standard to which GSPC
seeks to hold graduate students, Title V stipulates the standard as 3.0. This motion thus establishes
"Post-Baccalaureate/Graduate Academic Action Categories" that define
these categories, and further stipulates that "good standing" for
graduate students should be set at 3.0 or above.
