My name is Kristina Gonzales and I am a Sociology major who will be graduating this spring. I first arrived at Sacramento State Fall of 2014 as a transfer student from a California community college. I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree at Sacramento State because of their excellent Sociology and School Counseling MS program. Then when I first came to visit the campus I was amazed at how beautiful the campus was.
Looking back on my time spent at Sacramento State, I would have to say that the factors that have impacted my experience most have been my sociology professors and student academic success programs such as Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Peer Academic Resource Center (PARC). As a first generation student, transitioning from a community college to a university was a bit intimidating, but EOP offered the support I needed to get through my first semester at Sacramento State. Also, I found that the PARC, which offers tutoring and workshops were also very helpful. Everyone in the Sociology department is so nice and the professors that I have had the opportunity to study under are both amazing and inspiring.
