Vince's Story

My name is Vince Villegas and I am a third year Sociology student at Sacramento State. I plan to go into the field of Higher Education. I love Sacramento State! I chose Sacramento State because of the opportunities it has to be involved on campus and in the community. I am in the Honors Program, which is a very supportive community that has allowed me to make new friends and improve as a critical thinker and writer. I work as an Orientation Leader which has had a tremendous impact on me by giving me another family on campus. It has allowed me to improve my leadership skills by helping students transition to college and feel a sense of pride when they say they go to Sac State. This position helped me appreciate Student Affairs so much that I applied for the Student Affairs Leaders of Tomorrow (SALT) Scholars Program where I was a mentee of a Student Affairs professional and learned about student theories. Each hornet comes from a diverse background that I can learn about and it is also a place where I can find others with like interests.

In my free time, I play intramural sports like indoor soccer and floor hockey. I have been on Peak Adventure trips that included backpacking the Grand Canyon and white water rafting down the American River! Sac State has endless opportunities to succeed academically, personally, socially, and in your career. I can guarantee that if you follow your passions and interests, you are open to meeting others and taking risks-you will go far here at Sac State! Stingers Up!
