The Color Guard is an extra curricular activity within Detachment 88. The California State University, Sacramento Detachment 88 Color Guard represents entire cadet wing in the local Sacramento area. The Color Guard provides an invaluable service to the cadet wing by proudly posting our Nation's colors during AFROTC functions such as the annual Dining Out ceremony and weekly Leadership Labs. Not only does the Color Guard post the colors at ROTC events but also for various community activities like the Air Force Association banquet dinner, the graduation ceremonies for California State University, Sacramento, and the University intercollegiate sporting events.

The Detachment 88 Color Guard is highly respected in the Sacramento region due to the level of discipline and professionalism they possess. The image they portray is why so many organizations call upon our Color Guard to present the colors. The Color Guard has been asked to present the American Flag for the Sacramento Kings and even for the California State Legislature.

The Drill Team is one of many extra curricular activities offered at Detachment 88. The Detachment 88 Drill Team is made up of highly motivated cadets. The Drill Team is a very demanding and selective activity requiring each member to practice every week perfecting drill routines.

The Drill Team is also used as a tool for recruitment. The team actively performs for local high schools demonstrating the military precision and image needed to execute the complicated moves for the watching students. By performing for high school students, many of these students become intrigued and open themselves to careers in the Air Force. The Drill Team also performs at various ROTC events like the annual Dining Out ceremony.

When not performing for high schools or at ROTC events they continually practice for upcoming drill competitions against many other college ROTC units. Each year the Drill Team trains for the Southern California Invitational Drill Meet where the best come to compete and display their marching abilities.
