One of the many ways to get involved with the Hornets Policy & Politics Alumni (HPPA) Chapter is to join a committee!

Current students and alumni are welcome to participate. If you are interested in getting involved or have questions, e-mail us at

Communications Committee

o   Chair: Vacant

o   This committee supports the Communications Director in creating content and disseminating information related to HPPA through our mass e-mail feed, on social media, and to our partners and other news organizations. Usually content relates to event promotion, but also includes membership, fundraising, job opportunities, and other news that benefits students and alumni.

Big Events Committee

o   Chair: Rupinder Jawanda

o   This committee helps HPPA organize our signature ‘What’s Possible’ speaker series and our Annual Alumni Reception in April. Organizing these events requires that members work with sponsors, develop partnerships, find speakers, help with content for promotion, and attend events.

Membership & Small Events

o   Chair: Andrea Mendes

o   This committee helps HPPA gain and maintain membership and organizes our smaller events like our almost monthly Happy Hours, Add a Little Class to Your Evening and others. Volunteers on this committee help maintain our membership e-mail list, reach out to potential members and individuals whose memberships are expiring, as well as help develop content for membership outreach.

o   Chair: Angela Marin

o   This committee helps us fulfill the portion of our mission related to creating opportunities for current Sacramento State students. The primary responsibility of members of this committee is to communicate with and mentor current students and recent graduates and organize events in partnership with the university and other community organizations to support their professional development.

o   Chair: Danielle Parsons and Joanne Stacy

o   Every organization needs money and thus far HPPA has been successful taking the title of Sacramento State’s 2014 Alumni Chapter of the Year by raising more money than the other participating chapters. This committee will organize next year’s Chapter Challenge events and promotion, our annual charity Golf Tournament and support the development of fundraising and sponsorship targets, materials and strategies. Other fundraising ideas and strategies are encouraged and welcome!
