Dr. Data D. Barata has recently joined the CSUS as assistant professor of Anthropology. ……

Before joining the CSUS, Dr. Barata worked as an assistant professor of anthropology/ International Studies the University of Northern British Columbia, Canada. Dr. Barata comes to the CSUS with a wealth of international experience having worked as a visiting lecturer at McGill University (Canada), research fellow at Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (Germany), research officer at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex (UK) and lecturer at Alemaya University (Ethiopia). He has published extensively on his areas of research interest including rural livelihoods, indigenous knowledge and biodiversity, social inequality and political change, election and legitimacy, religion, peace and conflict. His ethnographic research region is Ethiopia/Horn of Africa. His monograph Rural Livelihoods and Social Stratification among the Dawro, Southern Ethiopia (2007) was published by the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, Addis Ababa University. Dr. Barata earned his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Bergen, Norway in 2003 and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at McGill university (Canada) in 2007.
