Professor Mel Weiss received his B.A. in History from the State University of New York at Binghamton, his M.A. and Ph. D. in Anthropology from Michigan State University. He joined the C.S.U.S. faculty in 1967.

In addition to authoring two books, numerous articles and papers, and professional commentaries, Professor Weiss has conducted research in the process of school and schooling, women's international gymnastics, elite military units, "Greek" life at universities, Chinese-American communities, and the traditions and life-ways of Anthropologists.

Dr. Weiss is interested in ritual processes, socialization, culture change, acculturation and fieldwork methodology.
