Anthropology Museum eGuides for Native California Mobile Classroom Program

The Anthropology Museum at California State University, Sacramento offers three different outreach modules designed to support the teaching of California history and Native California culture and society, as mandated by the State’s History and Social Science Standards. The Mobile Classroom Program for Native California integrates artifacts from the Museum’s teaching and research collections with digitized primary source materials (photographs and archival documents), both historic and contemporary. Rather than take a purely chronological approach to Native California history and society, these materials are topically-themed around the broad categories of Acorn, Baskets, and Games. Artifacts and primary source documents in each of these thematic categories are enhanced by additional curricular materials (eGuides) that may be utilized before, after, or in lieu of the Museum’s outreach presentation. These resources are made available to teachers and students through this website. To schedule a Native California Mobile Classroom presentation in the Anthropology Museum or at your school, contact the Museum Director. (Please schedule on campus field trips 3 weeks in advance; off campus visits to schools within the greater Sacramento region require 4 weeks lead-time). |
