Carl Sauer leans against a pole, ever-present pipe in hand, and contemplates a rural scene. The photo is from a family album made by Bob and Madge Richardson and is pasted among a number from a field trip that included the Sonoma coast, 1936--probably in the spring. Presumably this photo also is from Sonoma County.
