For more than 25 years, Sacramento State has utilized proven and emerging technologies to offer University courses and programs to learners located outside the physical boundaries of the campus. In recent years these offerings have been expanded to facilitate time and space independent learning options when appropriate.
Courses in the eLearning Program include those courses in which a significant portion of instruction takes place when the professor and students are not in the same place at the same time.
Sac State utilizes several eLearning models and delivery methods:
- Hybrid Courses — instruction is delivered via both classroom based instruction and the internet
- Online Courses — instruction is delivered primarily via the internet
- Televised Courses — lectures are broadcast on local cable television
- Video Streaming Courses — lectures are delivered via video streaming
Many eLearning courses utilize a combination of the above methods. The Sac State eLearning Program follows guidelines described in the California State University, Sacramento eLearning Policy, http://www.csus.edu/umanual/AcadAff/FSD00010.htm revised and approved by the Faculty Senate on February 11, 2010. ATCS collaborates with a diverse group of on and off campus entities http://www.csus.edu/atcs/affiliations.htm to facilitate the development, delivery and scheduling of all eLearning courses. eLearning classes are listed and annotated in the Sac State Course Schedule each semester.
