Quality Assurance for Online and Hybrid Courses

As part of its mission to support the development of high quality online courses, ATCS contributes to and coordinates quality assurance efforts at Sac State, particularly through the Quality Matters (QM) organization and the CSU’s own Quality Online Learning & Teaching (QOLT) initiative.

Quality Matters (QM)

Quality Matters is an international pioneer in the review and recognition of high quality online courses. Originally funded with federal grants, QM has since become an independent organization that supplies review materials, workshops, and review teams for member schools. As part of Sac State’s subscription, faculty can:

  • Access the research-based QM rubric to inform course designs and objectively review course materials
  • Obtain QM certification, widely recognized as a top mark of excellent online courses
  • Attend workshops at significant discounts to learn about online course design and QM’s peer review process

QM requires a verified faculty account to access the rubric and other materials. Email atcs@csus.edu to request credentials. To learn more about QM’s history and methodology: https://www.qualitymatters.org/about

Faculty members interested in QM workshops at minimal or no cost can contact Mark Rodriguez, Administrator-in-Charge, ATCS for further information (rodrigue@csus.edu). Spaces for workshops are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Below is a schedule of Quality Assurance Online Training courses for the 2016 - 2017 academic year that ATCS can provide support for. You may also access this schedule from Quality Assurance Training Schedule for Academic Year 2016/2017 (http://courseredesign.csuprojects.org/wp/qualityassurance/training/ ) webpage.

CSU Quality Online Learning & Teaching (QOLT)

In addition to Quality Matters, ATCS also coordinates Sac State’s quality assurance efforts with the Chancellor’s Office Quality Online Learning & Teaching (QOLT) program.

In response to the rapid growth of online and blended learning in the CSU and the need to support the development of high quality courses, the Chancellor’s Office established the QOLT initiative. Including a quality assurance evaluation instrument, faculty and staff workshops, and peer review processes, the QOLT program responds to the unique needs of CSU campuses and is available to all faculty at no cost.

QOLT is designed to support faculty as they build blended and online course materials and resources are generally licensed under Creative Commons, allowing customization for a campus’ or department’s specific needs.
