Updating Templates

  1. sample site called "test template"Open your site in Dreamweaver. It should appear in the Site panel when the Files tab is selected. The image shown to the right illustrates a sample site called test template.

     

     

     

     

  2. From the Site panel, double-click the name of your template page to begin editing it in the Document window. Your templates should be listed in the templates folder and end with the dwt extension. For example, one_column.dwt is the name of the template file in the sample site above.
  3. With your template file now open, you can create new editable regions, add new navigation links, or make corrections to the sample text in an existing editable region by following the steps in the section Making Content Editable on the Using Editable Regions page.
  4. To remove an existing editable region, right-click inside the editable region and select Templates > Remove Template Markup. Or, you can click inside the editable region; then from the Modify menu select Templates > Remove Template Markup.
  5. Select File > Save to save your revised template page.
  6. If you have already applied the template to Web pages, you will see the Update Template Files pop-up window, as illustrated below. Normally, you want to click Update to apply your template changes to each Web page that uses the template.

    After each Web page is updated, a summary window will appear, as shown below.

  7. Click the Close button to close the window.
  8. To continue editing your template, repeat steps 2 through 7 above.
