MEDIA SERVER - VIDEOSTREAMING
SacCT COURSES

If you are teaching a video-based SacCT Distance and Distributed Course, your class will be streamed live online and an archive of lectures will be available to students from your SacCT course. To access either live or archived lectures students must be enrolled in your class and have an active saclink account to login to SacCT.

Preparing a Videostreaming SacCT Course

  1. Use the Self Service Tool - http://www.csus.edu/webct/selfservicehelp/ to get your courses activated and to enroll students.
  2. Send your syllabus and course schedule to vs-courses@csus.edu so that consultants can prepare an online course schedule in your SacCT course.
  3. Add course material as needed to your course.
  4. Once you know which students in your class will need access to live video streaming lectures, notify us via email at vs-courses@csus.edu.

Icons to archive and live lectures as well as the online course schedule will be prepared by an ATCS Consultant.

Viewing Archive and Live Lectures in a SacCT Course

When students login to a Videostreaming SacCT course they will see two icons on the course homepage:

Video Streaming Icon- Used to access a web based course schedule with links to lectures. Links become active (available) 24 hours after the lecture has taken place (usually after 12pm the following day).

Live Video Streaming Icon - Students should click on this icon 5 minutes before the start of their class to view a Live lecture.

These icons would be displayed on a SacCT course's homepage as shown in the image below.

Archived Lectures

To access an online course schedule of archived lectures such as the one shown below, a student must click on the Video Streaming Icon. When archive lectures are ready to be viewed, their link (labeled real media) will become active.

Live Lectures

To access a Live lecture, a student must have special needs or live outside the cable viewing area and receive permission from their instructor. If they meet this criteria, the Live Video Streaming Icon will appear on their SacCT course home page. When they click on this icon, RealPlayer will open the video streaming class.

For additional information on using RealPlayer visit the Using RealPlayer webpage.
