1. Why get an advisor?
Biology Majors MUST see an advisor before they Register EACH and EVERY year.
Failure to do so will result in a hold placed on your registration and great sadness. SEE AN ADVISOR NOW!The purpose of advising is to help ensure that each student is on a path to success and to avoid any surprises on the road. Treat advising as an opportunity, not as a chore. Get to know your advisor.
2. How do I find out about advising?
Here is an Advising Guide for Biological Sciences Majors.
Here is a new Advising Guide for Pre-health students
3. How do I find an Advisor?
Find an Advisor in the table below and make an appointment. Do NOT email the same question to a whole bunch of advisors at once -- you are unlikely to get an answer that way. In fact, sending the same question to a bunch of advisors at the same time is a great way to ensure that no one will answer you.
4. How can I get the most out of an Advising meeting?
Be sure to show up to your appointment, and be ON TIME.
Bring any non-CSUS transcripts with you (it takes forever for these to be posted online)
Think ahead of time about where you are going in your degree and career, how much you currently work, how many courses you can realistically handle. A little self-reflection before an advising meeting is a valuable thing.
