Following
a national search, Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez has named Larry
Gilbert as the University’s Chief Information Officer. The appointment
is effective March 12.
In the new position,
Gilbert will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation
of information technology on campus as well as academic, student and administrative
technology initiatives. He will manage the operations of the University’s
Computing and Communication Services, Media Services, and Telecommunications
Services departments. He is also expected to play a major role in organizing,
managing and strengthening the campus’ information technology infrastructure,
including support to campus academic programs and distance education instruction.
Gilbert comes to
Sacramento State from Western Washington University where for the last seven
years he was director of Academic Technology and User Services. Previously,
he held positions as director of Teaching and Learning Technologies and associate
director of the Office of Telecommunications and Broadcasting at the University
of Nevada. He also served as director of Educational Media at the College of
William and Mary.
