Sacramento State will welcome guest speaker Vincent Tinto, professor of education from Syracuse University, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24 to present his keynote address focusing on retention challenges. “Creating Conditions for Student Success: Moving from Theory to Institutional Practice” will be presented in the University Union Ballroom.
Tinto’s keynote address will be followed by “Conversations with Tinto,” a discussion session to enable faculty and staff to ask critical questions related to retention. The session will be held in the Hinde Auditorium from 3 to 3:45 p.m.
Tinto has written on the issue of student retention, learning communities and student success. He is most widely cited for his seminal work on student retention entitled, Leaving College: Rethinking the Causes and Cures of Student Attrition.
Tinto currently serves as the chair of the Higher Education Program at Syracuse University and is a senior scholar for the Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher Education.
