Scholarship

Stephan Kroll, Economics, co-edited Environmental Economics, Experimental Methods.  This recently published volume in the series Routledge Explorations in Environmental Economics contains 27 articles by 63 leading scholars in the field. The entries include experimental research on institutions dealing with global climate change.

Recognition

Rob Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, was recently appointed to a three-year term on the editorial board of State and Local Government Review. He is also a member of the editorial review boards of Economic Development Quarterly and Journal of Public Finance and Management.

Sacramento State’s Center for Collaborative Policy was singled out among four finalists in the American Planning Association’s National Awards Best Practice category for a special commendation. The center’s mediation of the South San Francisco Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project was cited for strengths in most of the criteria and measures used by the association to evaluate the entries.

Scott Modell, Kinesiology, was quoted on Dec. 12 in the Sacramento Bee about items needed for children who participate in Project PLAY.

Kimberly Nalder, Government, was interviewed on: Dec. 11 on FOX 40 News about presidential candidates’ campaign trails; on Dec. 11 in the Sacramento Bee about research the Sacramento Media Group will be conducting; and on Dec. 31 on Capital Public Radio about voter turnout in the 2008 elections.

Robert Ortbal, Art, was profiled on Dec. 2 in the Sacramento Bee on his career as a sculptor.

Nick Burnett, Communication Studies, was quoted on Dec. 1 in the Sacramento Bee about a class he is teaching by podcast.

Tim Hodson, Center for California Studies, was quoted on Dec. 3 in the Sacramento Bee and Fresno Bee, and on Dec. 4 in Santa Rosa’s Press Democrat about Capitol employee pay raises; and on Dec. 10 in the Sacramento Bee about election-year politics between candidates.

Barbara O’Connor, Communication Studies, was quoted: on Dec. 5 in the San Francisco Chronicle about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his planned speech to discuss faith; on Nov. 29 in the Contra Costa Times and Pleasanton’s Valley Times about the use of YouTube in presidential debates; on Dec. 7 in Woodland Hills’ Daily News about fewer issues than in the past for voters to decide upon at the polls in February; on Dec. 16 in Vacaville’s Reporter and Manteca’s Bulletin,and on Dec. 17 in Riverside’s Press Enterprise about California Attorney General Jerry Brown’s stance on environmental issues; and on Dec. 23 in San Jose’s Mercury-News about California Democratic Senator Don Perata and the stall to pass a health care plan.

Dennis Tootelian, Business Administration, was quoted on Nov. 30 in the Sacramento Business Journal about television ads by Vision Service Plan; and on Dec. 27 in the Sacramento Bee about retailers strategies to get rid of old merchandise.

Denise Wall, Nursing, was quoted on Nov. 30 in the Sacramento Business Journal about the employment field for licensed vocational nurses.

Robert Waste, Public Policy and Administration, was interviewed on Dec. 31 on Capital Public Radio about Congressman John Doolittle’s run for a 10th term.

Michael Semler, Government, was quoted on Dec. 10 in the San Francisco Chronicle about the need for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton to win California’s primary elections if she wants to stay in the race.

Robin Pollock, Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, was quoted on Nov. 29 in San Luis Obispo’s Tribune about the Academic Resource Conference that she founded.
