Sacramento State’s Capital Fellows program has been named one of the top internship programs in the country by Vault.com, a career management research and information website. It made the top 10 list alongside a number of high-profile internship programs, including Google, the Smithsonian Museum, General Electric, J.P. Morgan and Nickelodeon animation studios.

“We’re flattered to be named one of the 10 best programs in the nation, and it’s wonderful to have our work validated by this ranking,” says Tim Hodson, executive director of Sacramento State’s Center for California Studies. “It’s a tribute to the program, our state government partners and, of course, the thousands of fellows who have given so much back to California.”

Vault.com reviewed 785 programs in its Guide to Top Internships and says it chose the top 10 programs by “evaluating each job according to criteria that include pay and perks, training, mentorship and chances of getting a real job at the end of it all.”

The Capital Fellows program is administered by the University’s Center for California Studies. The program allows college graduates to engage in and prepare for a career in public service. Participants work 10 to 11 months as full-time staff members in the California state Assembly, Senate, executive branch or within the California court system. The program offers a monthly stipend of $1,972 along with health benefits. In addition, participants earn 12 graduate units in Government or Public Policy and Administration.

The program is so popular and competitive that last year more than 1,200 people applied for the 64 available fellowships.
