Roger Sullivan, Anthropology, recently gave a talk regarding his research at UCLA’s Behavior, Evolution and Culture Speaker Series.
Jonathan Kaplan, Economics, was a panelist at the State of California Water Board’s Training Academy in Berkeley. He discussed his research project examining the long term economic interaction between animal agriculture and salinity in the Central Valley.
Rob Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, went to the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy in Cambridge, Mass., to record a video lecture on, “The Increasing Use of Property Tax Abatement as a Means of Promoting Sub-National Economic Activity in the United States.” His lecture will become part of a series featured on the institute’s web site devoted to expert analysis on tax topics.
Thomas Knutson, Communications, spent the winter break in Thailand at Bangkok University where he presented a paper, “Intercultural Communication Effectiveness: Thai Culture and the Land of Smile” at a symposium. He also met with Sac State students working at Chitralada Palace School and delivered lectures at Kasetsart and Chulalongkorn Universities.
Recognition
Ann Weldy, English Emeritus, had a play,“The Beebo Brinker Chronicles” based on three of her six novels (pen name Ann Bannon) performed. The play sold out two months of performances in New York City last fall. A new production is planned for the 37 Arts Theater in New York with previews to begin in mid-February. The play was nominated for a media award from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation as last year’s best city theater production. Weldy has also received awards from the Alice B. Readers’ Appreciation Society and the Lambda Literary Foundation for her pioneering contributions to women’s literature.
Jana Noel, Teacher Education, has been appointed to the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Urban Learning, Teaching and Research.
Maria Winkler, Art, has a painting in a group show, “Sunset,” at the Elliot Fouts Gallery, 4749 J St. Another of her paintings will be shown as part of the same show next month.
