Parking situation remains tight

Parking will continue to be a challenge during the spring 2006 semester and could get worse in March when construction is expected to begin for the new Hornet Bookstore.

The construction, along the continuation of construction on Parking Structure III, will result in a loss of about 1,100 spaces.

To mediate the situation, University Transportation and Parking Services has arranged for off-campus parking, similar to what was in place in the fall semester. Parking is available at the Ramona Avenue lot, one mile from the campus, with shuttle service between the lot and the Public Safety Building on campus. For more information and a map to the Ramona lot, visit www.csus.edu/utaps and click on "Update on Parking Condition." The Ramona lot will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with no entry after 2 p.m.

Off-campus parking is also available within a short walking distance of the north end of the campus at the Knights of Columbus building on Newman Court and at the south end of the campus at the McAuliffe Baseball Field off State University Drive East. Parking will also be provided in the Hornet Stadium area as the weather permits.

Alternate commute choices are also available including Sacramento Regional Transit buses and light rail, the Sacramento State Hornet Express shuttle, carpooling, vanpooling and bicycling. For more information on commute choices, transit routes and schedules, and links to other agencies, visit www.csus.edu/utaps or contact Alfredo Orozco at 278-7527.

For more information on parking conditions, contact Nancy Fox, Director, Transportation and Parking at 278-5241 or Ronald Grant, Associate Vice President, Business Operations at 278-6014.
