It’s the third year for Sacramento State’s Stinger Crabfeed and it’s going stronger than ever.
About 500 people attended the Jan. 31 event at St. John Vianney Church in Rancho Cordova, cracking crab legs to raise $25,000 for student-athlete scholarships, says Intercollegiate Athletics media relations director Brian Berger.
Even though the economy is flagging, support for Sacramento State’s athletes remains high. “We sold out earlier than we ever have before,” Berger says.
The annual seafood supper is sponsored by the Stinger Athletic Association, a volunteer group dedicated to supporting all 20 of the University’s athletic programs.
The Crabfeed had an earlier run at the University back in the 1980s, but went dormant. Its resurrection two years ago has proven an unqualified success. “It’s been really good,” Berger says. “We keep pushing the capacity as much as we can.”
