The Center for Collaborative Policy’s new research report on water governance, “Collaborative Versus Technocratic Policymaking: California’s Statewide Water Plan,” juxtaposes the 2005 planning process of a stakeholder-driven effort facilitated by Sacramento State mediators with a 1998 plan produced by a more traditional agency-driven process. Angus Wright, Environmental Studies emeritus, had his article, “Is a Better World Possible? The Experience of the Brazilian Environmental Movement and the ‘The Construction of Citizenship',” included in Global Environmental Challenges: Perspectives from the South. Broadview Press published the book last month.

Daniel Clark Orey, Teacher Education, just returned from Guatemala where he served as a consultant to HELPS International. Orey conducted in-service training for Ixil teachers and parents of the Escuela William M. Botnan. Later this month he will travel to Haifa, Israel, to present a paper, “Addresses, Paralelepipedos and Tortillas: Prompting Creativity Using Ethnomathematics.” The conference, “Intercultural Aspects of Creativity: Challenges and Barriers,” which will include math educators from numerous countries, is sponsored by the University of Haifa and Technion and a grant from the John Templeton Foundation.
Pattaratorn Chirapravati, Art, curated an exhibition, “Cycle of Life: Awakening—Works by Asian Women Artists,” at the IAES Gallery at UC Berkeley. This exhibition, the third of a series, will be on display through May 16.
